Bubble hems rock… they don’t blow up when it’s windy. If you take a tumble, they’ve got you covered. Tornado headed your way?… Don’t worry girl, they got you. My fave part of a bubble hem is that they’re insanely easy to create, with no sewing! J’adore a no sew DIY, because sewing is time consuming (ain’t nobody got time for that). I’m going to walk you through this DIY in 7 easy steps. So, warm up your glue gun and get your frock on.
Start off with a dress that you don’t really care for. I went with a maxi (remember this thing?) because I’m too short for them.
Turn your dress inside out. Using a glue gun or liquid stitch, carefully glue a thin line along the bottom of the fabric. Fold upwards, and press down. You want to press down (rather than spreading out) in order to leave room for the elastic that you’ll be inserting next.
When the glue dries, your hemline should look like this…
Gently guide elastic (or another stretchy fabric) through the hem of your dress. Make sure your elastic doesn’t get lost in there. When you’ve made it to the other side, tie the elastic in a double knot and glue the open ends of fabric together (covering the knot).
Do you Little Frockers prefer a maxi or a mini?
